DescriptionBorn in 1959, Cressida Bell is the daughter of art historian Quentin Bell, granddaughter of Vanessa Bell and great-niece of Virginia Woolf. Encouraged to be creative from an early age, she painted, made pottery, jewellery, and decorated furniture throughout her childhood.She studied fashion and textiles at St Martin’s School of Art, followed by an MA at the Royal College of Art, and in 1984 established her East London studio. Initially producing her signature scarves and shawls, she soon expanded into furnishing fabrics and collaborated with companies such as Warner & Sons, Habitat, Laura Ashley, the V&A and the British Museum. Her illustrative work, including book jackets, invitations and cards, has also been widely commissioned.Renowned for her vibrant, colourful and highly decorative designs, Cressida draws inspiration from global textiles, pottery, jewellery and art, while forging a distinctive style that, though influenced by her Bloomsbury heritage, is uniquely her own.
