DescriptionAnthony Whishaw (b. 1930) is an English artist who studied at Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London between 1948 and 1955. He was awarded both the RCA’s major traveling scholarship and life drawing prizes, along with a Spanish Government Scholarship and others soon after.His work deals with explorations of memory and experience. On the edge of representation, varying in intent, scale and depiction, his art seeks to reconcile illusion and allusion, the abstract and the figurative.Whishaw has had numerous solo shows throughout the UK and internationally including the Royal Academy of Arts, ICA, Barbican, Kettle’s Yard, Royal West of England Academy and in Shanghai, Madrid and Hamburg amongst others. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1989.
